What is a fireplace insert, and do you need one?
An insert is a closed, high-efficiency firebox that fits inside an existing open fireplace, which dramatically improves heat output and efficiency. If you have a masonry fireplace that looks good and heats badly, this is the fix. Green Heat installs every one it sells.

What is a fireplace insert?
An insert is a closed, high-efficiency firebox that fits inside your existing open fireplace, dramatically improving heat output and efficiency. We offer wood, gas, and pellet inserts and install each one.
Why put an insert into a fireplace that already works?
Because an open fireplace is poor at heating — much of the warmth goes up the chimney. A sealed insert captures that heat and puts it into the room instead, which is the whole reason the product exists.
Wood, gas or pellet insert?
Wood gives the most heat and the fire burns without power, unless you add the fan option. Gas is push-button with no fuel to store or carry, and needs electricity with battery backup for outages. Pellet runs automatically from a hopper with very low ash, and needs electricity. The same trade-off as stoves, in a fireplace opening.
Will an insert fit my fireplace?
That depends on the opening, the flue and the hearth, which is why we measure rather than guess. Bring photographs and rough dimensions to the showroom, or ask us about a site visit.
